Mental Health Matters

with Time for You Counselling

Hello, I’m Alison and I have a business called Time For You Counselling based at Temple just outside Carryduff. I work with youth from age 11 upwards, adults, couples and also offer Christian counselling. I deal with many issues including stress, anxiety, depression, OCD, grief, relationship issues and self-confidence to name but a few.

I am a Mum of 5 and a Granny of 6. My interest in people and the caring profession started when I was 14years old with an interest in fostering. We were blessed with inputting into the lives of 7 foster children. During my childhood I experienced someone very close to me struggling with severe mental health issues and realised just how difficult this can be for not only the sufferer, but also for the families. In my teenage years I started reading many books about mental health in an attempt to help and I then became a volunteer with Praxis Mental Health when I was 21 to gain a greater understanding.

My background involved studying Business Studies, Law & Counselling. I have had many voluntary roles including The Samaritans and to this day I am still involved in voluntary work.  I worked for Crossroads Young Carers, the Nexus Institute and then became a school’s counsellor for over 10 years. Following this I managed a counselling service in 48 schools in Northern Ireland along with my business partner until June 2019 when I became unemployed. This turned out to be an absolute blessing.  I want to encourage you all by saying that sometimes what can feel like a bad situation at the time, can turn out to be the opposite. My faith let me know that God was in complete control and in November 2019 I started Time For You Counselling.

There is no question my heart lies with people and I love counselling with all of my heart. It truly is more than a job to me. Mental health struggles are real, they can be very frightening and cause people to feel totally overwhelmed and alone. I would encourage anybody who is struggling to seek support from either a friend or a professional if they require it. There is absolutely no shame and I always share with clients that I know what it is like to sit on the other side and receive counselling. There are now other counsellors onboard helping me manage the demand and we can currently offer telephone, zoom and face to face sessions from Temple, Dromore, Dundonald & Portadown.

My website is www.timeforyoucounsellingni.co.uk which explains things further and I can be found on both Facebook at Time For You Counselling and Instagram @timeforyoucounselling.

If I can help you in any way, please feel free to get in touch.

Take Care,

Alison
